Lounge: Emotional infidelit...

I was watching "Lounge" on "NDTV Good Times" hosted by my favorite Rajat Kapoor. The topic of discussion was which one is hard to forget: emotional infidelity or sexual adultery.

Three different people invited to the program from different backgrounds. Each of those put thoughts on this complicated subject. In the end, conclusion came out that emotional infidelity is more dangerous than sexual adultery. Here is my intake on this with points taken from the discussion.

Of course, none of these is good for any relationship but if given a choice which one will you prefer to see in your relationship? I would say that emotional infidelity is more dangerous. The reason is that sexual adultery can be one time only. It can happen during any weak moment of one's life when s/he is very depress and looking for someone around. After looking at all the circumstances and considering the fact that this was one time, another partner can take it easy and work out on it. But emotional infidelity is not that easy to develop and forget as well.

It takes time to develop the emotional bonding. If one partner is emotionally attached to third person (of course, more than his/her partner), it means that s/he has given enough time deliberately to develop that bonding which is not fair with the other partner. Also, once person is involved with someone emotionally it is pretty hard to come out of that. Hence, emotional infidelity is everlasting.

In the end, I would say that there are three components which makes any relationship healthy, interesting and successful. Those are friendship, respect and passion.

It takes time to develop a friendship with anyone. You enjoy the company of that person and feel comfortable with him/her. You find yourself in the second stage where you start appreciating the person as s/he is. No one is perfect in this world so we have to accept this truth and we shouldn't try to fill the gap of "what s/he is" and "what I want". These two steps develops emotional bonding needed in any relationship. Once you are passionate about that friend, it means you are in love with that person.
