Discrimination based on ski...

In my foreign language class today, the teacher told that in their country they don't discriminate people based on skin color. How wonderful!!!

But we (read as Indians) spend lot of our time in taking a decision which is just based on the skin color of the person. e.g. if someone is looking for a match for marriage. S/he wants the other person to be good looking. Handsome, beautiful, good looking, slim, tall etc. features get more preference than what the person really is.

Aren't all these features given by nature at the time of birth. More precisely, these features depend on the background of a person, the family in which s/he born, the surrounding atmosphere/climate in her/his childhood, the kind of facilities (read as outdoor plays/activities) s/he got during that time. If look at these factors closely, we can easily figure out that most of these factors are not controlled by the individual.

So is selecting a person based on these attributes a wise decision? Why can't we see at the other side of a person's personality which s/he made by her/his own efforts with time during all her/his life. Like, what are her/his values and principals in life? How much confidence does s/he have on her/his stand? How much stress one can handle in tough times? etc. All these questions depends person to person depending on their own priority.

I am sure this is one of the way to grow as a community, if we want. Just by growing in the economic world won't give us a position rather getting mature mentally will surely do.
